You are invited to participate in an experiment from the Shared Reality Lab, within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McGill University. The experiment involves exploring photos virtually using a force-feedback haptic device with audio feedback. Once you have explored the virtual scene, you will then be asked to reconstruct the scene using dowels on magnets. This experiment will require the ability to hold a pen as well as the ability to hear sounds of varying pitch. We ask for any interested members of the blind and low vision community to reach out if interested to participate.
At this time, we have some prototype combined audio-haptics experiences that we would like you to try out. This study will take place over two one-and-a-half hour long sessions (estimated) for a total of 3 hours. Both sessions will be scheduled around 2 weeks apart. This will be in person and will take place at a time of your choosing at McGill or at the RAAMM. If you are absolutely unable to go to either, we can make alternate arrangements with you at your home. You will be paid $10 per session with a 30$ bonus after completing all 2 sessions for a total of 50$.
If interested, feel free to contact me (Emmanuel Wilson) by email at emmanuel.wilson2@mail.mcgill.ca to schedule your session! This project is under the supervision of Jeremy Cooperstock (jer@cim.mcgill.ca).
Engaging with the community is key to getting accessibility right. We are currently surveying blind and partially sighted individuals about their experience interacting with graphics on the Internet. If you would like to share your experience with us, please fill out one of the following surveys:
Survey for Canadian residents only, in: English or en français.
Survey for non-Canadian residents
If you would like to contact us about the project, please reach out at image@cim.mcgill.ca.
